Scotch Bonnet grows like crazy in Jamaica. Soups and curry dishes are nothing without a good old Scotchie in them. Most Jamaicans enjoy fiery hot food like myself. Thanks for the heart rating measurements which I did not know – ChrissieJ, Kingston, Jamaica

Chillies are measured, or rated rather, in Scoville Units. Most Scotch Bonnets have a heat rating of 150000–325000 units which doesn’t mean a whole lot. But if I tell you that the jalepeno has a heat rating of 2500 to 8000, I think you get the picture. This stuff is hot! =)
The Scotch Bonnet is mainly found in the Caribbean islands, and it has got its peculiar name because of its resemblance to a Scotsman’s bonnet.
The Scotch Bonnet is a type of chilli pepper. It is of the same family as the habanero and one of the hottest peppers in the world.
